Brewin Dolphin Selects Asian Income Fund

9 January 2006

Brewin Dolphin Securities, one of the UK 's largest portfolio managers for private clients, reveals that it is reviewing its investment exposure to Asia.

The portfolio manager believes that the positive corporate news from countries such as China and India as well as the resurgence of the old Tiger economies are well worth considering for private investors.

Brewin Dolphin has added Newton 's Asian Income Fund to its ‘buy-list'. According to the company, it is considering this type of investment vehicle within a balanced portfolio for investors with a higher risk profile who are looking to benefit from the buoyant investment prospects in the Asia (excluding Japan) region.

The fund is one of the first of its kind to offer a competitive income based on Asian stocks, excluding those from Japan.

Mike Lenhoff, Chief Strategist and Head of Research at Brewin Dolphin said,

“China and India are currently the two largest developing economies and provide engines of growth for the global economy. While recognizing that the returns are likely to be commensurate with the risks, with a fund such as this, investors have the opportunity to buy into a long term growth story at a considerable discount”.

Harry Burnham , Group Fund Director of Brewin Dolphin said,

“Clients are increasingly eager to benefit from the upswing in corporate confidence evident across much of the Pacific Rim . The Newton fund can offer investors geographic exposure to a fast growing economic powerhouse”.

The fund aims to exceed the total return of the FTSE All World Asia Pacific ex Japan Index through investments in securities in Asia Pacific including Australia and New Zealand . It should provide a dividend yield of at least 35% greater than this Index as it has selected cash generative companies with reliable dividend yields.
